Charlie Sheen Responds to Ashton Kutcher News

Charlie Sheen Responds to Ashton Kutcher News

All things considered, we weren't sure how Charlie Sheen would take the news that Ashton Kutcher is replacing him on Two and a Half Men. Surprisingly, he seems to be handling it like a gentleman. Following the official announcement, Sheen hopped onto Twitter to congratulate the entire cast and crew of his former show, as well as his successor (@aplusk on Twitter).

"#Winning Congrats to the cast and crew...CBS & WB..!" wrote Sheen. "My best to @aplusk!! The show must go on... You got the right guy!"

Kutcher responded in kind, tweeting, "@charliesheen Thank(s) man. Always been a fan, always will be! BTW you were 'born big'."

Though Sheen doesn't seem to have any hard feelings toward Ashton, he allowed some bitterness to come through in an official press statement.

"Kutcher is a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer...Oh wait, so am I!" Sheen said on Friday, followed by a joke about how the ratings were about to plummet -- and a backhanded remark about his former boss Chuck Lorre.

"Enjoy planet Chuck, Ashton," Sheen concluded. "There is no air, laughter, loyalty or love there."

Okay, so Sheen clearly has mixed feelings. But another longtime cast member seems genuinely psyched to welcome Ashton aboard: his future co-star Jon Cryer.

"Ashton is an extraordinarily talented guy, and his presence will be an asset to our show," said Cryer in a statement of his own.

"(Ashton and I) are old friends from our male modeling days," Cryer joked, "and we're both looking forward to being judged for our comedic artistry, as opposed to our exceptional physical beauty."

The actor, who starred opposite Sheen for eight seasons, says he's "jazzed" that the show is coming back -- though he amicably remarked that it won't be the same without Sheen.

"I want to express my enormous gratitude to Charlie Sheen for eight great seasons. I'm extremely proud of the work we've done together, and I will miss him," said Cryer. "But I'm also looking forward to this new beginning."

Kutcher -- who will reportedly be making more than half of Sheen's record-breaking salary -- hasn't started shooting yet, but he's already updated the long-running sitcom by giving it a new Twitter nickname: it's now known simply as "2.5."
