Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe believes that the current judging line-up on American Idol is appropriate for the current climate.
Lythgoe says times have changed since the initial introduction of Idol ten years ago and that the “gentler” line-up of judges is fitting nowadays.
"When we brought the show here to America we said that Simon had a role to play of honest judge," he said. "[At that time] we said we'd be tough, honest and, if anything, we might cross the line... Sometimes we did, and the rest of the time we were pretty honest.
