Miss Venezuela Eva Ekvall Dead At 28
Miss Venezuela Eva Ekvall, lost her battle with breast cancer this past weekend. She was just 28. Eva Ekvall was a beautiful girl. She competed and won the 2000 Miss Venezuela contest, and was the runner up for Miss Universe in 2001. After passing on her crown she went on to act and work as a news anchor. In 2010, Ekvall was diagnosed with breast cancer. She began chronicling her life and wrote the book, Fuera de Foco (Out of Focus), which came out earlier this year. She was very realistic about what was going on, showing herself bald, and going through treatments. In an interview, she told the newspaper El Nacional, “I needed to send the message of the need for cancer prevention. I hate to see photos in which I come out ugly. But you know what? Nobody ever said cancer is pretty or that I should look like Miss Venezuela when I have cancer.” She relocated to Houston shortly after finding out she had cancer to undergo treatment. She was hopeful that she could overcome the cancer, but sadly, she lost the battle. She leaves behind her husband and her two year old daughter, Miranda Bermudez Ekval. [...]
