During spring break, you can be whoever you want to be: Names change, reputations are made (or ruined) and lifetime memories are made. Snoop Dogg, then, is a fitting performer for MTV Spring Break 2011.
Throughout the veteran rapper's career, he's been a Death Row inmate, a No Limit soldier and even a country crooner.
"I always been one to try out different things that are abnormal, not what I'm accustomed to or what people would expect me to do," Snoop told MTV News. "And once I find that, I've always managed to keep me within that and not try to find something so brand new where it took me away from me. So it's still in the world of Snoop Dogg while experimenting and trying out new things that are different and diverse, whether it's movies, whether it's videos, music or new styles, whatever it is, I've always been able to do it differently but maintain that Snoop Dogg stigma within but without."
Snoop's Las Vegas performance is set to air Thursday (March 31) at 9:50 p.m. on MTV. He'll serve up some selections from his new album, Doggumentary, which features Kanye West, John Legend and Willie Nelson, among others.
According to Snoop, the country set has embraced him ever since "My Medicine" and he decided to open up his arms to the genre again.
"That style of music is so close to hip-hop," he said. "People don't even know country music could be hip-hop. We struggle, we stress, we tell stories of what we want to become and the terrible life we had, the drinking, the blues, the heartaches and the headaches. But at the end of the day, it's all about good music, and the music sounds so good and feels so good and it's so relevant — that's how me and country music are able to cross hands."
