UFC 121 Prediction and Betting Contest Results

In honor of another Brock Lesnar title defense I called for a big turnout for the MMATorch Prediction and Betting Contests, and you guys didn't disappoint. With well over forty entries in both contests, we had record participation. Maybe it was the tangible prize on the line, but TorchNation was out in full force, and it was much appreciated. While Mr. Lesnar wasn't able to successfully defend his title for a third time, both of our champions did. Prediction Champ Eric Marchment did so for the first time, holding off Shaun Godric Louis by a single prediction; 8-3 to 7-4. Congrats to Eric on a tough first challenge, but things don't get any easier from here.

Betting Champ Cambo "Rambo" Nelson just keeps rolling merrily along, blowing out challenger Odin by a record margin. It helps that Odin laid a goose egg on his bets, but Nelson did his part as champion, nearly doubling his money. Congrats to Rambo on yet another successful title defense. Will anyone be able to unseat him?

Perhaps it will be our new duel #1 contender Casey Vaccaro. Casey beat out a glut of six competitor's who went 9-2 on their predictions with a whopping seven correct rounds/methods. He also was one of four men to more than double their money, but it was a $100 bet on Chris Camozzi that made the difference in out-dueling Ryan Wankel. He moves on to battle both our champions at UFC 122. Congrats to Mr. Vaccaro on a fantastic performance.

So that just leaves us with the small matter of who's taking home a copy of Jonathan Snowden's new book "The MMA Encyclopedia". Being the top overall performer in both contests, obviously one copy is stamped for Casey Vaccaro, but what to do with the other copy? I was the next best finisher in the prediction contest, but I would feel a bit odd awarding myself the prize, so I moved on to the betting side. The next best finisher there was Ryan Wankel, so it goes to him. Congrats gentlemen. Be sure to email me your addresses so we can get those sent out asap!

Performer of the Night: Oh, so close. I'm usually very reluctant to even consider myself for this honor, but two-thirds of the way through compiling the results, I was still sitting atop both contests. Then came Casey Vaccaro's entry. Stupid Casey Vaccaro.

Goat of the Night: Its a tie. Both Jonah Goodman and John Hickman take home this dubious distinction as they were two of only five to lose all their money, and two of only twelve to go under .500 on their predictions, both with 5-6 marks. Better luck next time gents.
